Rethinking Denim

Dress & Shirt: Thrifted || Heels: Jeffrey Campbell Lakota

The denim on denim trend is nothing new but most ensembles tend to favor pairings of pants and shirts of different shades or washes. I picked this little dress up from my local Salvation Army (thrift store) and as soon as it fit I was inspired to come up with different denim on denim looks around it. In the same store I found this light denim shirt in the men’s department.

The look was as easy as tossing the denim shirt, buttons open and collar up, over the dress for that laid back I-didn’t-even-try-look. July’s murky humid weather would hear none of that so tweaking for the humidity was essential. Loosely fastening the shirt low on the hips did the trick. Plus it added some volume on the bottom creating a layer that makes this little denim dress more interesting. Late evening rain was a welcome relief from the humidity and it was cool enough to wear the shirt as originally envisioned. I like it both ways and actually thinking of other creative ways to wear this dress with other denim through the summer.

Of course the best part is both the shirt and dress combined cost me a whooping $4.25. There’s an unbeatable deal if ever there was one.
