Almost Olivia

Pants: Radcliffe London || Trench: Mango [T] || Heels: B-Brian Atwood

As you probably have already read, the Kenya fashion bloggers challenge 6 was inspired by Scandal. I picked Olivia because unlike most people I don’t really have a set dress code for work so this challenge was a way to experiment with formal/corporate/business ensembles.

Naturally I drifted to all black because duh! it’s the highly adaptable color you can wear for any occasion (and it’s a neutral just like most of Olivia’s closet). However, I tend to favor highlight in small doses of color, which is where this crimson trench comes in. Maybe it was just in my head but I really did feel like I command attention dressed like this.

ION – I’m so proud of myself because I have stuck with the thrifting plan for 6 months (excuse me while I give myself congratulatory pats on the shoulder). I’ve even managed to thrift shoes – like these delicate lace pumps.

There’s temptation everywhere but I’m determined to thrift my way through 2015. I’ll make an exception for the Balmain for H&M collection, assuming there’s something I like. I’m holding out on the shoes too, which if you know me that’s the biggest battle.

I’’ll just say this – comparing expenditure on clothes between this and last year is enough to keep me going. Plus once you become a master thrifter, there’s no greater satisfaction than unearthing pricey pieces for dirt cheap. Out there on the streets, a Dolce and Gabbana skirt is a Dolce and Gabbana skirt, it doesn’t matter where it was bought. It’s what you do with it that counts.
